Demand for bond funds remained strong in May

EFAMA has today published its latest monthly Investment Fund Industry Fact Sheet, which provides net sales data on UCITS and AIFs for May 2023, at European level and by country of fund domiciliation.

 

Bernard Delbecque, Senior Director for Economics and Research at EFAMA, commented: Bond UCITS continued to attract net inflows for the seventh month in a row, against the backdrop of interest rates close to their peaks and easing inflation pressures.”

 

The main developments in May 2023 can be summarised as follows:

 

  • UCITS and AIFs recorded net outflows of EUR 13 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 29 billion in April 2023.
     
  • Net sales of UCITS reported net outflows of EUR 7 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 19 billion in April 2023.
     
    • Long-term UCITS (UCITS excluding money market funds) registered net outflows of EUR 4 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 5 billion in April 2023.
       
      • Equity funds registered net outflows of EUR 3 billion, similar to the performance in April 2023.
      • Bond funds experienced net inflows of EUR 10 billion, down from EUR 15 billion in April 2023.
      • Multi-asset funds recorded net outflows of EUR 6 billion, similar to the level seen in April 2023.
         
    • UCITS money market funds recorded net outflows of EUR 4 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 14 billion in April 2023.
       
  • AIFs registered net outflows of EUR 6 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 10 billion in April 2023.
     
  • Total net assets of UCITS and AIFs increased by 0.6% in May, reaching EUR 19,640 billion.
