Regulatory trilogues

Last year saw the launch of the Savings and Investment Union Strategy (SIU), with big ambitions for simplifying EU regulation and improving competitiveness. This came with many significant legislative proposals. Now, 2026 will be the year of political negotiations on all these far-reaching proposals.

The European Parliament and Member States will be debating the merits of proposals covering cross-border asset management and fund distribution, supervision, capital markets infrastructure, private and workplace pensions, sustainability disclosures, technological innovation and securitisation, amongst others. And let’s not forget the pre-SIU proposals still ongoing this year, namely finalisation of the Retail Investment Strategy and continued negotiations on the Financial Data Access (FiDA) Regulation.
All of these will have huge implications for the operations of European asset managers in the future.
