UCITS equity funds remained in high demand in January, contrary to bond funds

The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) has today published its latest monthly Investment Fund Industry Fact Sheet, which provides net sales data on UCITS and AIFs for January 2022, at European level and by country of fund domiciliation.

Bernard Delbecque, Senior Director for Economics and Research at EFAMA, commented: Rising concerns about inflation and monetary policy tightening hit UCITS bond funds in January, leading to net withdrawals for the first time since March 2020.

The main developments in January 2022 can be summarised as follows:

  • Net sales of UCITS and AIFs registered net outflows of EUR 18 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 102 billion in December 2021.
  • UCITS recorded net outflows of EUR 8 billion, compared to net inflows of EUR 65 billion in December 2021.
    • Long-term UCITS (UCITS excluding money market funds) registered net sales of EUR 51 billion, down from EUR 73 billion in December 2021.
      • Equity funds recorded net sales of EUR 25 billion, compared to EUR 27 billion in December 2021.
