Dear Members of the European Parliament,
European Fund trends in Q4 2021 – Further slowdown in the net sales of long-term UCITS
The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) has today published its latest monthly Investment Fund Industry Fact Sheet, which provides net sales data on UCITS and AIFs for December 2021, at European level and by country of fund domiciliation. A first overview of the net sales data of UCITS and AIFs over the full year 2021 is also included.
The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) has today published its position paper on the European Commission’s proposed Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation review which establishes a blueprint for a consolidated tape (CT) across Europe’s capital markets.
The European PRIIPs Template v2.0 (EPT) incorporates the necessary changes based on the revised PRIIPs RTS, published by in the Official Journal of the European Union in December 2021.
The EPT is intended to be used for products sold from January 2023 onwards. It is important that data contained in the EPT is communicated by asset managers to insurers in good time before this date, bearing in mind any national market specificities.

EFAMA and several other financial industry associations, raised concerns in response to a consultation conducted by the European Commission on planned changes to the Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products (PRIIPs) framework.
The unexpected delay to the adoption of the revised PRIIPs RTS cuts the implementation period for the industry by more than two months. This leaves PRIIPs manufacturers and distributors with a too short period instead of the original timeframe of 12 months to implement the new rules.
EFAMA responded to a public consultation of the Platform on Sustainable Finance on a social taxonomy.

The Commission is trying to understand how the EU legal framework could be improved to tackle the use of legal entities with no or minimum substance and no real economic activities, by taxpayers operating cross-border to reduce their tax liability.
While cognisant of the FSB’s strict timelines in view of upcoming G20 summits, these should not come at the expense of a necessary and more informed debate on the causes at the root of last year’s stresses in global short-term funding markets (STFMs) and on ways to remedy these in the future. In fact, the options presented in the consultation report appear hurried and dismissive of critical facts, calling therefore for a deeper engagement with the global financial and investing community at large.
EFAMA welcomes IOSCO's enhanced attention to transparency efforts supporting informed and qualified investment decisions in sustainability-related products. We support the adoption of such recommendations at the international level and believe IOSCO should leverage the experience with SFDR and Taxonomy in Europe to help establish consistent international standards, definitions and best practices.
In this response, we would like to highlight three pressing challenges deserving greater attention in the report from asset managers' perspective.
